Long Lake is the centrepiece of Long Lake Provincial Park, a 5000+ acre wilderness oasis that borders on the edge of Halifax’s urban core, only a ten-minute drive from downtown Halifax, and central to the entire city. Long Lake was the City of Halifax’s principal water supply from the mid-1800’s to the 1970’s and as a result it has always been protected from adjacent development that could negatively affect its water quality. The result is a 3 km+ long lake on the edge of the city with absolutely pristine water and an uninterrupted, unaltered natural shoreline. Long Lake is a great place to spend several hours of a day traversing the lake and exploring the many inlets, two islands and the old dam that created the lake’s current shape two centuries ago.
Sarah started the business with her dad back in 2018. What she thought would be a little tent renting a couple of kayaks turned into an amazing entrepreneurial experience that granted the oppourtunity to help so many people get out on the water and appreciate the beauty of Long Lake. Sarah grew up in Halifax, completed her undergraduate degree while swimming for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues, and went on to complete Bachelor of Education from StFX. Currently, she is working as a teacher overseas in the UK, and spends her weekends travelling and exploring Europe. Although Sarah is now overseas, she is a beyond integral part of the business, and her love for LLAC remains in all of her new experiences.
Katie is an integral part of the operation at LLAC. She works alongside her loving sister, Sarah, to ensure customer satisfaction and curating a positive work enviroment for the staff. Katie grew up in Halifax, completed her undergraduate degree while swimming for the UOttawa Gee Gee’s, and is now completing her Master’s studying Carbon Management at The University of Edinburgh. When she is taking a break from working on her thesis, Katie enjoys discovering all of the beautiful things Scotland has to offer with her friend, Marin, who was a long-time employee at LLAC. Even at a distance, Katie is an essential part of LLAC, and have the ducks at Long Lake awaiting her arrival, as she has promised them a loving amount of Scotish steel-cut oats.
Grace Earle is one of the seven sets of siblings that have worked at LLAC. This year marks Grace's fourth year working on the Lake and first year as General Manager! Grace recently graduated with a degree in Biology from Acadia University, while running for the schools cross-country/track and field team, and is also an Acadia swim alumni. When Grace isn't working, you can find her zooming by you as she runs around HRM to work up her Strava profile. Fun fact, Grace loves reptiles, as a volunteer at a Vet Clinic, and with a research focus on parasites in snakes and frogs.
Anne-Sophie is returning for a second year this summer. During the year, she attends Acadia University for Kinesiology, and runs competitively on Acadia’s Track & Field team. In her off season, Anne-Sophie loves to travel to her family home in South France, discovering all the delicacies of French culture and is hoping to try escargots during her visit to France this summer.
Rachel is returning for a second year this summer. During the year, in the fall, Rachel is studying nursing at Dalhousie University. When she is not at the lake, Rachel is hanging out with her friends or trying to separate cat fights between her two cats, Maggie, and Julie; priding herself in being a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady.
Jon is our star employee, with the record number of "Employee of the Week'' awards in one summer. Jon swims competitively for Acadia University while pursuing a Computer Science degree. If you are ever looking for Jon around the lake, you can find him trying to train the ducks to be his minions. This 2026 season marks Jon's third year of filling big shoes as Assistant Manager, succeeding many compliments from the ducks to continue being such an integral addition to the LLAC team.
Lucy is returning for a second year this summer! During the year, she studies Kinesiology at Acadia University, entering her third year. When Lucy isn’t working at the lake, she stays close to the water, paddleboarding and exploring Nova Scotia beaches with her dogs, Annie and Alice. Fun fact, Lucy, and our other employee, AnSo, are roomies!
Georgia is returning for a second year this summer. During the year, she attends Dalhousie University to pursue an English major. When she’s not at the lake, Georgia goes by “coach,” to a U15 girls soccer team, and enjoys playing for her own soccer team in her spare time. Leaving her “coach” hat at home, Georgia loves to discover new running routes to explore all of the beautiful trails around Halifax.

Thank goodness for our accountant! In addition to balancing the books, Kelley enjoys sanitizing lifejackets and doing iced coffee runs for staff on hot sunny days. When not helping at the lake, Kelley can be found biking the Sambro Loop.
Our behind the scenes gal who makes sure we all get paid and that our books are balanced!
